About Us
Introduction

Over 40 different Federal agencies assist or regulate businesses. With so many sources of information, finding what you want can be complicated and time-consuming. Business.gov is one of the E-Government initiatives in the President's Management Agenda. It was developed to provide better customer service for small businesses interacting with the Federal Government.

Business.gov is a collaborative effort managed by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Partner executive departments include Department of Commerce (DOC), Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of the Interior (DOI), Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Labor (DOL), and Department of Transportation (DOT). We also partner with the following independent agencies and government corporations: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), General Services Administration (GSA), and Social Security Administration (SSA). Click here to see the list of agencies that are represented within the Forms Catalog.

SBA and their partner agencies share the belief that government can be more customer-focused and user-friendly in helping U.S. small businesses gain access to information and services from the government. Business.gov provides a one-stop, common access point for Federal Government services and information needed to assist with starting, running, and growing a business.

Serving businesses on their terms - providing information at the right time and in the right format - is our goal.

Navigation

Business.gov is designed to present information based on the business user's point of view. Our intent is to make federal rules, regulations, guidelines, resources, and other information easily accessable from one website in a manner that makes sense to the user. As a result, information within these pages may be accessed in five differnet methods.

  • For those who want to find information according to a standard business cycle, there are four buttons (Launching, Managing, Growing, Getting Out) across the top that, when clicked, will direct the user to relevant information for each section of the business cycle.
  • Within the right window of this website are a list of broad topics that may be of interest to any business or business owner, regardless of their position within the business cycle. Clicking on these links will take you a list of more detailed sub-topics, from which you can continue to navigate until a specific article or link to the desired information is found.
  • On the home page of this website is a text link called "Region" that allows users to find state and region-specific information. This is an excellent secondary navigation to find information that is not generally provided elsewhere on this website.
  • Also on the homepage of this website is a text link called "Industry" that presents industry-specific information. Keep in mind that industries that are considered similar may be grouped together and presented under one of the industry names, but not the other (i.e., Telecommunications only appears under "Information Technology And Telecommunications").
  • Finally, in the upper right corner is a search tool that will present information according to the key words you type into the search field. The search tool presents information both within this website and from other websites.
Font Size

The font size of this website may appear too small to some users. To change the font to a larger size, choose the "View | Text Size" option from your web browser menu, and then select a font size option.
