Numerous laws and regulations govern the types and amounts of taxes that are required for businesses to pay. It is helpful to at least have a general understanding of these laws and regulations. It is also helpful to know how you and your business can influence them.

United States Code
The United States Code is the codification by subject matter of the general and permanent laws of the United States. It is divided by broad subjects into 50 titles, and published every six years. In between editions, annual cumulative supplements are published in order to present the most current information. The Code may be searched online, or purchased in hardcopy format, or downloaded as ASCII text files.

Social Security Laws
The Compilation Of The Social Security Laws, Volume I document, including the Social Security Act, as amended, and related enactments through January 1, 1999.

Internal Revenue Bulletin (IRB)
The IRB is the authoritative instrument of the IRS for announcing all substantive rulings necessary to promote a uniform application of tax law. Executive Orders, Department of Treasury decisions, tax conventions, legislation, court decisions, and other interesting information are published weekly. The IRBs are offered here in PDF format.

Plain Language Tax Regulations
A listing of "plain language" interpretations and explanations of tax regulations issued since August 1, 1995. You can quickly and easily view a summary of these interpretations online, or download a lengthier text as a PDF file. This list also provides a way to comment on regulations with an open comment period.

Interpreting Tax Laws And Regulations
The IRS offers information about interpreting the regulations it issues in response to tax laws and the Internal Revenue Code.

Small Business Resource Guide
The Small Business Resource Guide, CD-ROM 2005 provides critical tax information to small businesses including forms, instructions, and publications. The CD also provides valuable business information from a variety of government agencies, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions. The CD contains essential startup information needed by new small businesses in order to be successful. Updates to the guide are also available.
