Proton therapy offers unique clinical advantages that make it especially effective at treating difficult to treat tumors, such as brain, spinal cord, tumors in children and cancers of the eye.
When a proton beam travels through tissue, it has a limited range depending on the beam energy, and only a small amount of dose is delivered along its path.
As it reaches the end of its range, the proton releases a burst of energy within a very limited volume, called the "Bragg Peak" or Bragg Curve. Controlling the energy of the beam controls the range of the beam and allows delivery of radiation to the tumor, but minimizes exposure to tissues lying beyond the tumor.
Thanks to increasingly sophisticated imaging, delivery and scanning techniques, the options for treatment by proton therapy continue to expand.
ProBeam is indicated to provide protons for precision radiotherapy of lesions, tumors, and conditions anywhere in the body where radiation treatment is indicated including the following types of tumors:
Increasingly, patients themselves are seeking out proton therapy treatment because of its many properties that make it an alternative to other conventional treatment modalities.
