Application Process
Applications are reviewed based on several factors, with a strong emphasis on the following:
- Fulfillment of Varian’s funding mission and criteria
- The non-profit status of the applicant (for charitable grants)
- Clearly-stated project/program objectives, timelines and financial requirements
- Number of people benefiting from the project/program
Organizations will receive email confirmation of Varian’s receipt of their application. Applications are reviewed on a bi-weekly basis by Varian.
Grant applications must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the start of the project. Grants submissions are reviewed throughout the year.

Projects That Are Not Eligible For Funding
- Applications that are in any way associated with planned, current, or past purchases, or the recommendation to purchase, any Varian Medical Systems, Inc. products or services
- Local chapter programs already supported by Varian at the national level (i.e., National Survivor’s Day, Relay for Life)
- Capital campaigns for new buildings and/or major equipment purchases
- Endowments or endowed chairs
- For-profit organizations
- School extra-curricular activities/clubs
- Sporting or entertainment events (i.e., golf)
- Individual requests for personal needs/projects such as individual scholarships and individual travel support
- A-Thon fundraisers (i.e., walk-a-thon, telethon)
- Religious or political organizations
- Advertising programs (i.e., radio/television)
- Requests for promotional items
Note: While many requests are worthy and meet guidelines and eligibility criteria, not all requests can be granted.
